What to Expect in the iPhone 18 Pro Lineup
Apple is expected to swap out iPhone 18 Pro’s color lineup with shades such as light blue, silver, and dark cherry. Like the previous iPhone generation, the18 Pro series will likely maintain the flat-edged frame and triple-camera layout. The biggest design change might be the smaller Dynamic Island which gives the smartphone a tiny pill-shaped cutout. Apple is expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro lineup with the new A20 Pro chip and C2 modem. The A20 Pro chip is manufactured by TSMC using the 2 nanometer process. Compared to A19 Pro, the A20 Pro chip is rumored to be 18% faster and consumes 30% less power. This means the iPhone 18 Pro lineup might be better at handling demanding games and heavier AI tasks. iPhone 18 Pro smartphones might also come with camera upgrades. The iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely feature a variable-aperture main camera. Both Pro models are expected to feature three 48-megapixel rear sensors and an 18-megapixel Center Stage selfie camera.
iPhone 17 is Q2’s Best-Selling Phone
As Apple prepares to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, iPhone 17 made headlines by becoming the world’s best-selling smartphone in Q2 2026. The Global Handset Model Sales Tracker report by Counterpoint Research showed iPhone 17 sales accounted for 6% of the global market during the quarter, ahead of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Pro Max. Apple smartphones dominated the overall chart after five of its models featured in the top 10 spots. Samsung closely matched Apple with five of its models appearing in the top 10 spots. In the period under review, Apple’s unit shipments rose 5% year-on-year, despite an 11% drop in the overall smartphone market. Counterpoint attributed the increase to growth in markets like Japan and India. Apple dominated the global smartphone market last year with a 20% share, ahead of Samsung’s 19%.
What iPhone 17’s Performance Means for Apple
The iPhone 17’s sales strengthen Apple’s market positioning ahead of iPhone 18 lineup launch. The performance means the tech giant continues to attract buyers despite the slowing smartphone demand. But the fact that the standard iPhone 17 outperformed Pro models remains significant. It means that consumers don’t necessarily need expensive models to find value in the latest generations. This shift might shape Apple’s approach to the iPhone 18 lineup. With the Pro models arriving before the standard iPhone 18, Apple has a chance to build demand for mainstream models while driving excitement at the premium end.
