  • Affected employees received layoff emails from the company’s at 6am
  • The tech giant has made heavy AI investments to expand cloud and data center capacity

Employees at Oracle may be preparing for another wave of layoffs on September 1. The software giant has reportedly asked managers to submit lists of workers who might be affected by the new round of layoffs. News about Oracle’s impending August layoffs have sent shockwaves among workers, who fear an email informing them their roles have been eliminated might arrive in their inboxes at 6am.

Why is Oracle Laying Off Employees?

The reported job cuts come as Oracle faces financial pressure amid heavy AI investment. According to its annual report, the company laid off approximately 21,000 employees last year as it restructured its business around AI.

In the 2026 fiscal year, the company’s capital expenditure stood at approximately $55.7 billion amid efforts to expand cloud and data center infrastructure. The software giant reported $23.7 billion in operational cashflow shortfall during the year.

Oracle has also been working to raise more capital. In the 2026 financial year, the software firm raised $43 billion in debt financing and an additional $5 billion through stock sales. This year, Oracle plans to raise about $40 billion.

The company needs to deploy massive capital to build AI infrastructure. In January, estimates from TD Cowen suggested that cutting 20,000 to 30,000 jobs could enable Oracle to potentially release $8 billion to $10 billion in cash flow.

The company reportedly plans to reduce its payroll before its second fiscal quarter begins on September 1. This means employees affected by the layoffs only have a few weeks before the company implements a major restructuring exercise.

What Are Oracle Employees Concerned About?

For most employees, the biggest concern might be how the company communicates the layoffs. Oracle laid off more than 10,000 workers in March. At the time, the software giant reportedly sent emails to thousands of workers at around 6am local time.

The emails from Oracle Leadership reportedly stated “we have made the decision to eliminate your role”. Some employees said they did not receive warnings from their managers or HR calls prior to the layoffs. System access reportedly ceased the morning emails were sent.

Oracle has not confirmed the job cuts officially yet. However, sources familiar with the company’s Oracle September layoffs indicated that some teams could experience job cuts reaching double digit percentages

Impact of Layoffs on Oracle’s Business

Oracle’s business has not been affected by the layoffs. In the last fiscal year, the company reported 17% growth in overall revenue. Oracle’s cloud infrastructure business recorded a 77% growth while its net income increased by 95% in the recent quarter. Even so, Oracle’s looming layoffs represent the company’s shift toward an AI-focused business. With infrastructure spending unlikely to slow, employees may continue to face uncertainty as the company explores ways to fund its ambitious AI expansion plans.
