Meta Starts Testing Muse, an AI Agent that Could Track Expenses and Manage Emails

Meta’s Muse AI agent has moved to the limited and closed testing phase after the company completed internal testing. The agentic tool can search through inboxes, interact with connected services, and complete-multi-step processes with minimal user input. 

Meta is expected to ask users to join a waitlist or use an invite code to access Muse AI agent during the closed testing phase. The company has been exploring agentic AI as part of its broader AI strategy following the release of the Muse Spark AI model earlier this year.

What Tasks Can Muse AI Agent Handle? 

Meta described Muse as an AI assistant that’s capable of completing multi-step tasks like finding information, tracking expenses, and managing emails. A screenshot on the company’s official App Store page showed the AI agent handling a practical task.

In the example, Muse searches a user’s email box, retrieves a school field-trip permission slip, and completes relevant information. It identifies that the user needs a chaperone for the trip, checks their availability, asks for permission to register them, then sends an email confirmation. 

“Muse is your personal AI agent that gets things done, always working on what matters to you. It manages email, books dinners, tracks budgets, and finds deals with your approval,” the company stated on the App Store description. 

Meta added that Muse could help with calendar management. The AI agent can fix conflicting schedules, set reminders, and book reservations. The agentic tool will maintain logs for all activities. Meta is running controlled tests on the AI agent about a month after it unveiled  Muse Glimmer. The compact, open-weight agentic model can run  locally on Mac or PC. 

Which Connectors Does Muse AI Assistant Support?

Muse will likely support popular productivity connectors like Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, as well as  health apps such as Peloton and HealthEX. Users will decide which other apps the agentic tool can access and link to them. 

Reports indicate that when linked to users’ card providers, Muse AI could access bank accounts to track expenses and suggest canceling unused subscriptions. This preposition raises security concerns. However, it's possible that the AI agent will likely rely on card and bank statements received through users’ email accounts to track expenses. 

Meta said Muse will only complete actions after users approve them and users can revoke connectors anytime. The company  will likely test Muse on mobile and web platforms, with desktop support expected later. The tech giant did not disclose when the AI agent will be available to the wider audience or whether it will be offered as a paid subscription.

Muse signals Meta’s push to make AI more useful by giving it the ability to complete tasks independently. The closed testing phase will reveal whether users can trust AI with sensitive information and everyday decisions. If successful, Muse could strengthen Meta’s position in the growing agentic AI market.
