OpenAI Launches ChatGPT for Teens With Stronger Safety Guardrails

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Teens on August 18, introducing a dedicated experience for users aged 13 to 17. The release combines stronger safeguards with parental controls and learning-focused features. The mode is automatically activated when OpenAI estimates that a user is under 18 or when the user identifies as being between 13 and 17.

When OpenAI is uncertain about a user's age, it said the system will default to the safer setting.

The company requires users to be at least 13 years old, or meet the minimum age requirement in their country.
