Anthropic Introduces Localized Claude AI Pricing in India Starting at Rs 2,000

Anthropic has introduced Claude AI pricing for India, allowing users to subscribe to paid plans in Indian rupees instead of U.S. dollars. While Indian pricing is now reflecting on the Anthropic website, the company has not enabled the unified Payments Interface (UPI) yet. This means Indian users who subscribe to paid plans have to pay via bank cards or use the Apple or Google app stores’ billing systems.
Why is Anthropic Localizing Claude Pricing in India?
Anthropic, whose valuation reached $965 billion in May, has been billing Claude subscriptions in India in U.S. dollars. This increased prices for users due to currency conversion charges and payment fees. With the localized pricing structure, the AI firm now displays the final amount that users need to pay.
The price of Claude Pro in India will now start at Rs 2,000 per month for annual subscriptions. Monthly subscribers will be charged Rs 2.399. Previously, this plan cost users about $20 a month or $17 each month for annual subscriptions. This price was not inclusive of taxes and payment charges.
Claude AI’s pricing update also highlights India’s growing influence in the global artificial intelligence market. Previously, industry reports have indicated that the Asian country is the second-largest market for Claude after the U.S. This means India is critical for Anthropic as the AI race tightens.
What Does a Claude Pro Subscription Mean for Indian Users?
Indian users who subscribe for Claude Pro will access significantly higher usage on Sonnet 5. They will also have access to Anthropic’s most advanced AI models, including Fable 5, whose access the company extended to July 19. A Claude Pro subscription in India will unlock access to Anthropic’s powerful Opus 4.9 model.
In terms of tokens, Pro subscribers will access about five times the usage allowance available on the free tier. Indian subscribers will also access features like Research mode, Memory, Web Search, and Unlimited Projects. In addition, the Claude Pro plan will offer users access to Claude Code, Claude Design, and Microsoft 365 integrations. Free-tier users in India will have access to Sonnet 5, Sonnet 4.6, and Anthropic’s affordable AI model, Haiku.
How Does Anthropic Cater for High Capacity Users in India?
To cater for high capacity users, Anthropic will continue its Claude Max offering in India. The AI firm has priced the Max 5x plan at Rs 11,999 per month and the Max 20x plan at Rs 23,000 per month. Previously, subscribers had to pay $100 and $200 respectively, excluding payment charges and taxes.
While Max subscribers in India will not receive access to additional AI models, they will enjoy expanded usage limits. Anthropic is also maintaining access to features like Projects, Memory, Claude Code, Cowork, and Web Search for this tier of users. Max subscribers will also access longer coding sessions on Claude Code, enjoy priority access during high demand periods, and have early access to new features and AI models.
