Anthropic Extends Claude Fable 5 Access to July 19 Amid Rising Competition

In Focus

  • Extension only applies to Claude Pro, Team, Max, and premium Enterprise subscribers
  • Subscribers access up to 50% of Fable 5 weekly allowance at no additional cost
  • Anthropic is updating new limits automatically for subscribers

Anthropic is extending access to Claude Fable 5 for paid subscribers until July 19. With the latest extension, Claude Pro, Team, Max, and premium Enterprise subscribers can use the Mythos-class AI model at no additional cost.

Anthropic extended Claude Fable 5 access almost a month after the U.S. government issued an export control directive requiring access to Anthropic’s frontier AI models to be suspended for foreign nationals. Anthropic temporarily disabled broad access to Claude Mythos and Fable 5 to comply with the directive.

We’re extending Claude Fable 5 access on all paid plans, as well as keeping Claude Code’s weekly rate limits 50% higher, through July 19,” Anthropic stated in a post on X.

Why has Anthropic Extended Claude Fable 5 Access to July 19

Anthropic has not explained its decision to extend Fable 5’s free access. However, the move could be a strategy to keep developers engaged with testing the new model and provide feedback.

The extension comes amid intensifying competition in the AI market. OpenAI launched GPT-5.6 last week. Early comparisons showing the new model has narrowed the gap with Fable 5 on coding and reasoning tasks. Anthropic has experienced challenges in rolling out Fable 5. Besides the government ban that temporarily limited access to the AI model, the company faced backlash from startups, researchers, and policy experts a day after Fable 5 release.

The backlash was triggered by Anthropic’s failure to disclose the hidden guardrails in the Mythos-class AI model. Anthropic reversed its guardrail policy after the backlash and committed to inform users whether their prompt would be blocked or rerouted.

Which Users Are Not Eligible for Fable 5 Access Extension?

The latest Claude Fable 5 access extension does not apply to the free tier accounts and users who hold standard seats on Enterprise plans. Usage-based accounts on Enterprise plans and API usage plans on Fable 5 are also not eligible for the access extension.

This is not the first time that Anthropic is offering a Fable 5 access extension. This is the third the AI firm is extending Fable 5 access. Previously, Anthropic extended Fable 5 access to Pro, Team, Max, and Premium Enterprise subscribers to July 7. The company issued another extension to July 12. Once the July 19 deadline passes, Anthropic will update Claude 5 pricing to include extra usage credits.

What Does Fable 5 Extension Mean for Users?

Like other Claude models, Fable 5 shares the same weekly usage pool. However, Fable 5 consumes weekly usage tokens faster compared to other Claude models. The latest access extension means that paid subscribers can use up to 50% of their Fable 5 weekly token allowance at no additional cost.

Anthropic is extending Claude Fable 5 usage limits automatically, so users don’t have to activate anything on their end. Eligible paid subscribers can access Fable across Anthropic’s suite of products. These include Claude on the web, Claude Mobile, Claude Desktop, Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude Design, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude for Teams, and Claude Tag.
