Google Expands Access to SandboxAQ’s Scientific AI Models via Cloud Marketplace

Google has added SandboxAQ’s Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) to Google Cloud marketplace. The move combines Gemini with AI models that have been trained on scientific equations and laboratory data. With this listing, users can access SandboxAQ’s scientific AI models on the Google Cloud Marketplace. Users can access the LQMs through conversational AI tools that they already use, without requiring specialized infrastructure or code.
“Bringing our LQMs to Google Cloud’s Marketplace will put the rigor of first-principles science directly into the hands of every researcher, in the tools they already use. Pairing the reasoning of a frontier model such as Gemini with the quantitative precision of our LQMs is a powerful combination,” SandboxAQ CEO, Jack D. Hidary noted in a statement.
Why has Google Added LQMs to the Cloud Marketplace?
Google brings SandboxAQ to the Google Cloud marketplace to expand access to AI models that are built for materials science, drug discovery, and semiconductor production.
Currently, the large language models (LLMs) that power the AI industry are primarily trained on text, which makes them strong at understanding and generating language. However, they are less dependable for precise numerical or scientific computation.
On the contrary, SandboxAQ’s large quantitative models learn from numerical data and scientific equations. This specialization makes the scientific computing AI models more effective for technical fields like chemistry, biology, and physics, where accuracy matters more than fluent language output.
“Bringing SandboxAQ’s Large Quantitative Models to GCP Marketplace is one of the ways we are empowering healthcare researchers to accelerate drug discovery and solve one of the most critical gaps in healthcare today,” Google Cloud VP for Strategic AI and ISV, Brian Goldstein said
Which LQMs Will be Available on Google Cloud Marketplace?
The first SandboxAQ model that users will access on Google Cloud marketplace is AQCat. This model is designed to help researchers to identify and evaluate potential catalysts and materials for applications such as battery development and semiconductor manufacturing.
In these use cases, discovering the right chemical combinations can significantly improve performance and efficiency.
Another model, AQPotency, will also be available on the marketplace. The model focuses on drug discovery, helping researchers to pinpoint molecules that are likely to bind to specific disease targets. By doing so, the model speeds up early-stage pharmaceutical research.
The collaboration between SandboxAQ and Google Cloud comes soon after the U.S. government awarded SandboxAQ $500 million under the CHIPS program to support development of AI tools for semiconductor manufacturing.
What the Google Cloud Partnership Means for SandboxAQ
The partnership with Google Cloud is part of SandboxAQ’s long-term plan to link its quantum-inspired AI models with leading large language models. This strategy allows different AI models to work together more effectively.
SandboxAQ was originally established as a quantum technology lab within the X division of Alphabet. The company spun out to run as an independent company in 2022.
