OpenAI has announced multiple improvements to GPT-5.5 Instant. This is the first update the AI firm has made since the AI model was released in April. The latest update improves the model’s ability to understanding context and adapting to user queries for more accurate responses.
“We have a new version of GPT-5.5 Instant for you, and it’s much more fun to talk to,” OpenAI stated in a post on X. Adding that the updated model “makes shopping and local recommendations more useful and cohesive. Rolling out today to paid users, tomorrow to free users.”

In May, OpenAI made GPT-5.5 Instant the default model on ChatGPT. At the time, the AI developer reported that tests on GPT-5.5 Instant showed a 52.5% drop in hallucinated statements. Tests also showed a 37.3% drop in factual errors.
The primary improvement in GPT-5.5 Instant is the quality of conversational interactions. Although previous models can complete tasks effectively, the overall user experience is largely determined by the quality of the interaction.

Additionally, the model can generate other location-based results including product recommendations and business information depending on user queries. In situations where visual context is required, the AI model can display images alongside responses to enable users to make better decisions.
