Snap Launches SPECS AR Glasses that Blend Digital Content With Reality

  • SPECS smart glasses are powered by two Snapdragon processors
  • The AR glasses can be connected to smartphones
  • Snap has priced a pair of SPECS AR smart glasses at $2,195

Snap has launched SPECS AR glasses at the Augmented World Expo 2026. The smart glasses utilize augmented reality to integrate AI assistance into entertainment, productivity tools, and shared experiences. Snap’s SPECS smart glasses will be available for purchase later this year, and interested buyers can pre-order.

Which Technology Powers Snap’s SPECS Smart Glasses?

Snap’s AR glasses are powered by two Snapdragon processors, enabling hand tracking and other forms of interactions. One processor supports computer vision while the other drives the lenses.

The glasses launched about two months after the company signed a multi-year agreement with Qualcomm to use the Snapdragon system-on-a-chip technology in the wearables. The glasses are designed to bring digital content into the physical environments.

They align augmented reality with human spatial and visual, which means users will constantly be aware of their surroundings when using them.

SPECS bring computing into the world around us. Instead of pulling us away from the moment, they make it possible to access information, entertainment, and assistance while staying engaged with the people and places around us,” Snap noted in a statement posted on its website.

SPECs are a culmination of more than 10 years of AR development. They reflect the shift from conventional computing systems to personal devices that support continued screen-heavy usage.

How Do Snap SPECS Work?

SPECs are Snap’s seventh generation model and are designed for day to day use. Their power and processing functions are built into their frames. The company used Swiss TR90 polymer to build SPECS frames, which weigh about 136 grams.

For display, the lenses feature a proprietary liquid crystal on silicon technology. This offers a 51-degree field of view to users and has the ability to show up to 16 million colors. The lenses are also electrochromic, which means they either appear clear or tinted.

Snap’s smart glasses will be available in two sizes and can be connected to smartphones. The wearables offer up to four hours of battery life with mixed use. An accompanying charging case can store additional power, extending battery life up to 20 hours.

News about Snap AI glasses launch comes soon after Apple reportedly started developing its first multi-colored smart glasses. Apple’s Siri-powered glasses will likely launch at the end of this year or early 2027.

How Much Will Specs AR Glasses Cost?

Snap has priced the new smart glasses at $2,195. A refundable deposit of $200 is required for pre-orders made via the Specs online store. The AI glasses will start shipping this fall in the U.K., the U.S., and France. Snap did not disclose when SPECS AR glasses will be available in other regions.

The launch of SPECS intensifies competition in the emerging smart glasses market. It positions Snap among companies like Meta that are competing to shape the next generation of personal computing. Currently, Meta’s Ray Ban smart glasses dominate this market. With Apple, Google, and other tech giants developing similar products, the focus is increasingly shifting from smartphones to AI-powered wearable devices.
