It’s the final WWDC keynote for CEO Tim Cook ,who hands over Apple’s leadership to Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus on September 1. iOS 27 Focuses on Intelligence and Speed
Apple’s iOS 27 announcement emphasized on artificial intelligence, personalization, and system performance. The company said the update delivers substantial performance enhancements while maintaining support for devices dating back to the iPhone 11.
Described as Apple’s most AI-centric iPhone release to date, iOS 27 is built around Siri AI, deeper integration of Apple Intelligence, enhanced productivity features, AI-powered photo editing tools, and expanded customization options across the user interface.
Siri Gets a Smarter AI Upgrade
Siri was expected to be a part of Apple’s major announcements at WWDC 2026 after the tech giant promised a more personalized AI assistant early this year. The tech giant unveiled an updated version of the digital assistant, Siri AI.
The new assistant comes with visual updates, with a Siri animation appearing on iPhones that feature a Dynamic Island. Users can still use the wake word “Hey Siri” to activate the AI. On iOS 27, the Siri AI interface appears when a user swipes down from the center of the screen.
The revamped Siri can respond to queries and search the device for specific information. The AI assistant displays responses in a card and users can continue conversations with the chatbot.
Apple has added document analysis and feedback capabilities to Siri, enabling users to to interact with documents conversationally, generate summaries, and insights directly through the assistant. Additionally, Apple is integrating Siri into Spotlight on macOS Golden Gate, making the assistant accessible from the search interface. The tech giant plans to make major improvements to Siri AI’s voice dictation capabilities as it seeks to make the digital assistant a one-stop shop for user information.
Apple Intelligence Expands Across Apps
The WWDC 2026 Opening keynote featured updates on Apple Intelligence. The tech giant announced that Apple Intelligence will now power a range of features, including Siri AI, Safari, Passwords, and Messages.
The AI suite can organize tabs according to topics on the Safari browser and notify users of web page changes like restocks and product drops. Apple Intelligence will also fix weak Passwords with a single tap.
In Messages, Apple Intelligence is powering a smart reply function that mimics a user’s writing style. The AI suite can add contacts, locations, and modify events on the Calendar. Apple plans to add more features to Image Playground to enable users to generate, edit, and expand photos. Images generated or edited using Apple Intelligence will feature a SynthID watermark.
