Best Video Games of May, June & July 2026 for PS5, Xbox, PC & Switch 2

Introduction

From Grand Theft Auto VI and Resident Evil Requiem to Crimson Desert, Marathon, and 007 First Light, 2026 has already delivered some exciting releases, with plenty more still on the way. Whether you play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Nintendo Switch, there are plenty of games worth adding to your Wishlist.

Keeping track of new releases and updated launch dates can be difficult with announcements happening throughout the year. This guide rounds up the best new video games 2026, covering major releases across May, June, and July. Games are grouped by month with platform information, a quick overview, and the type of player they’re best suited for.

May 2026 Video Game Releases

May turned out to be one of the busiest months of the year. Three big titles landed within ten days of each other, which was chaotic for wallets but good for backlogs.

1. Forza Horizon 6 — May 19 | Xbox Series X|S, PC (PS5 later in 2026)

The most-requested Forza setting for years was Japan, and Playground Games finally delivered. The map covers neon-lit Tokyo streets, mountain passes around Mount Fuji, snowy northern regions, and coastal highways — reportedly the largest Horizon world to date. Over 550 licensed cars at launch, including Japanese icons like the Nissan GT-R and Toyota Supra.

Early reviews called it the best Forza Horizon yet. Available on Xbox Game Pass day one, which makes this a no-brainer for subscribers. PS5 version is coming later in 2026 — no confirmed date yet.

Best for: Racing fans, open-world explorers, Game Pass subscribers.

2. 007 First Light — May 27 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Switch 2 later)

IO Interactive — the Hitman studio — built an origin story for James Bond before he earned his 00 status. You play a young Bond, voiced by Patrick Gibson, working his first official MI6 missions across international locations. The gameplay blends stealth, precision shooting, hand-to-hand combat, and gadget-based puzzles, with an emphasis on player agency: missions can be approached through aggression, stealth, or social infiltration.

Think Uncharted with a Bond skin — cinematic, narrative-driven, and polished. The team that made three excellent Hitman games knows how to build a stealth system, and this looks like the definitive modern Bond game.

3. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — May 22 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Switch 2 later)

TT Games built this one differently. Instead of the usual LEGO ensemble approach, the game focuses on seven playable characters from the Bat-family — Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Jim Gordon — and gives each unique abilities. The open-world Gotham is built on Unreal Engine 5, and the combat system draws from the Arkham series rather than the usual LEGO brick-punch formula.

The story covers Bruce Wayne’s training with the League of Shadows through to assembling his team. Sold around 1.2 million copies in its first week across all platforms, so it found its audience despite launching right between Forza and 007.

Best for: Batman fans, families, players who want a lighter open-world experience.

4. Mixtape — May 7 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC

Three friends, their last night together before going their separate ways, and a soundtrack featuring The Cure, Joy Division, and Smashing Pumpkins. Mixtape is a short narrative adventure set in the 1980s — more interactive film than traditional game. If you want something that lasts four hours and makes you feel things, this is it.

Best for: Story-driven game fans, anyone who grew up watching John Hughes films.

June 2026 Video Game Releases

Summer Game Fest kicked off in early June with a wave of announcements — Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, a Resident Evil Code Veronica remake, a new God of War starring Laufey. The actual June releases were more measured, but still worth watching.

5. Gothic 1 Remake — June 5 | PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The original Gothic from 2001 was a genre-defining eurojank RPG — unforgiving, weirdly alive, and years ahead of many games in how it handled NPC routines. Alkimia Interactive rebuilt it from scratch, keeping the Colony’s open-world structure and unrestricted progression while adding a modern combat system, expanded questlines, and new traversal abilities.

It’s been on wishlists for years, and the previews suggest it actually lives up to the cult reputation of the original. Available on Steam at $49.99.

Best for: RPG fans, PC players, anyone who played the original and wondered what a proper remake would look like.

6. The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales — June 18 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC

Square Enix’s new action RPG from the creators of Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default. The 2D-HD art style is immediately recognizable — painterly, layered, with that characteristic depth-of-field effect. You follow Elliot and his fairy companion Faie on a quest to uncover the world’s hidden history.

Unlike the Zelda comparisons it initially attracted, the game has genuine RPG depth: equipment upgrades, varied items, and combat mechanics that separate it from a simple Zelda clone. The free demo is worth downloading before you commit.

Best for: JRPG fans, Octopath Traveler fans, Switch 2 owners looking for a showcase title.

7. Star Fox — June 25 | Nintendo Switch 2 (exclusive)

Fox McCloud’s first proper outing since Star Fox Zero in 2015. This is technically a remake of Star Fox 64 — the second remake of that game after the 3DS version — but Nintendo added fully rendered cutscenes, an orchestral soundtrack, online multiplayer for up to eight players, and Switch 2-specific features including motion controls via Joy-Con 2 mouse mode.

Ten years is a long time to wait for a Star Fox game. Whether a remake of a game that already got a remake is what fans wanted is a reasonable debate — but the production values are there, and for Switch 2 owners this is one of the first must-buy exclusives.

Best for: Nintendo fans, Switch 2 owners, players who never experienced Star Fox 64.

8. Dead or Alive 6 Last Round — June 25 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

The franchise’s 30th anniversary update to Dead or Alive 6. Nearly 30 playable fighters, enhanced visuals, and a new photo mode. Priced at $39.99 — positioned as a reentry point for lapsed fans rather than a full new game. If you want a fast, technically demanding fighting game this summer and haven’t played DOA, this is a solid pick.

Best for: Fighting game fans, competitive players, DOA veterans returning to the series.

July 2026 Video Game Releases

July is shaping up as the month of big franchise comebacks and long-awaited sequels.

9. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced — July 9 | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Ubisoft confirmed the open secret: a full remake of 2013’s Black Flag, widely considered the best Assassin’s Creed game. Resynced is rebuilt with modern visuals and updated systems, keeping the naval combat and Caribbean open world that made the original stand out. If you’ve never played Black Flag, this is the version to play. If you have — the question is how different “rebuilt” actually means in practice.

Best for: Assassin’s Creed fans, open-world players, anyone who loved the original and wants to revisit it.

10. Attack on Titan 3 — July 2026 (TBC) | PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Announced at Summer Game Fest 2026, this follows the story of the manga and anime through to Eren’s conclusion — picking up after the 2018 Attack on Titan 2. If you want to know what the game looks like before committing, the source material gives you a pretty clear picture of where it’s heading story-wise.

Best for: Attack on Titan fans, action game players, anime game fans.

11. Deltarune Chapter 5 — June/July 2026 | PS5 and more

Toby Fox’s episodic RPG continues. Deltarune Chapter 5 returns to the bullet-hell combat and turn-based mechanics from previous chapters. Worth noting: this isn’t the final chapter — chapters six and seven are still unscheduled — so manage your expectations about getting a complete story here.

Best for: Undertale and Deltarune fans, indie RPG players.
